So do dermal fillers have a place in a dental office?

Well, the same logic (Botox in dental office post) applies to dermal fillers as well in that a smile is more than just teeth. It’s one’s face as a whole.

Lack of volume in lips – nice luscious lips that are plump are a sign of youthfulness, and if one doesn’t want to get lip implants, you could definitely make them more full with fillers.

Deep laugh lines around the mouth – they too can easily be addressed with fillers to create a more youthful smile.

Deep wrinkles in the face – the tired looking face can be transformed with fillers.

Black triangles between the teeth – this is an interesting application of dermal fillers. There are many patients who have had orthodontics done and get the straight teeth but are left with lack of gum between the teeth in the front – the gums are very flat and don’t rise to fill in the spaces between the teeth. And that is unideal. Depending on the severity it could be addressed of course with gum grafting. Sometimes grafting is not the preferred method however either from cost perspective or lack of predictability, or just the fact that some patients don’t want to go through a surgical procedure. In those cases, Juvederm (dermal fillers) are the best alternative as they physically increase the volume of the gum that’s already existing in between the teeth to fill in the gap! Very easy procedure.

The effects are reversible in all of these cases of course. Although dermal fillers typically stimulate the natural collagen production of the body in the sites that they’re injected but the initial immediate effect usually last anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the severity of the issue being addressed and the bodily reaction.
